First discovered by British endocrinologist Dr. ATW Simeons, the HCG diet has become an increasingly popular choice for individuals looking to loose weight. Human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG, is a diet plan that involves injections of HCG paired with a low calorie meal plan.
Apple Day on HCG Diet:
If you have embarked on the HCG diet, you may have come across something referred to as “Apple days”. The basic premise of the apple day, is that from noon on one day, until noon the following day, a person will consume up to six apples and nothing else. Water may still be consumer, however, it is recommended to limit intake as much as possible, drinking only when physically thirsty. The apple day protocol serves a couple of primary purposes. According to Dr. Simeons, the main reason for performing an apple day is to flush an excess water from the body and break through any weight plateaus that a person may be experiencing.
When should you do an apple day?:
According to Dr. Simeons, it is recommended to only perform an apple day when your weight has been stalled for at least four days. Many people will also perform an apple day in order to compensate for a “cheat” day where they may have strayed from the HCG diet protocol. Dr. Simeons also notes that apple days should not be done on days where you are skipping an injection of HCG, for example, during menstruation or when following the 40 day HCG plan. Although many women may experience weight stalls or even gain during the days preceding the start of their menstrual cycle, it is not recommended to perform an apple day. This normal fluctuation in weight will correct itself naturally.
When completing an apple day, aim to spread your six apples throughout the 24 hour period. You may consume any type or variety of apple, as long as you limit your intake to the six apple maximum. The apples can be made in any fashion; experimenting with different apple recipes can often be helpful for preventing feels of deprivation and creating a sense of variety. For example, apples can be dehydrated and made into apple chips, or baked for a warm dessert.
Breaking through a plateau
Sooner or later, almost every dieter will experience a weight loss plateau. Although this can feel discouraging, by completing an apple day and continuing to follow the HCG diet, you will continue to experience weight loss. It is especially common for someone to experience their first weight loss plateau during phase 2 of the HCG diet.
Apple Day HCG results:
Most people will experience an immediate break in their plateau following an apple day. It is also not uncommon to see a large sudden drop in weight due to the excess water weight being eliminated. A drop of several pounds is not unusual. Upon return to the regular HCG diet, a normal rate of weight loss will continue. Another apple day should not be executed until another weight loss stall is reached.
